Overview

Getting older is a complex process often accompanied by fears of losing independence. The Certificate III in Aged Care Work provides a comprehensive guideline for taking care of the elderly, focusing on empathy, professional skills, and a holistic understanding of the aging process.

This course introduces students to new insights into the process of growing old, helping to replace stereotypical thinking about ageing with a complimentary view of ageing gracefully. It equips learners with the essential skills to handle the social, physical, and psychological wellbeing of the elderly.


Curriculum

The course comprises 14 modules.

  1. Orientation to Aged Care Work Structure and profile of aged care services.
  2. Assist with Self-medication Risks and responsibilities in medication administration.
  3. Communicate Appropriately with Clients and Co-workers Practical communication skills.
  4. Comply with Information Requirements Documentation and monitoring of service plans.
  5. Facilitate Co-operative Behaviour Managing unacceptable behaviors and conflict de-escalation.
  6. Participate in Safety Procedures Identifying hazards and assessing risk.
  7. Participate in the Work Environment Working effectively in groups and achieving organizational objectives.
  8. Responsive Care for Dementia Specific communication and dignity-maintenance strategies for dementia care.
  9. Provide Personal Care Supporting personal care needs and understanding body systems.
  10. Provide Support to an Older Person Risks and responsibilities toward individual elderly clients.
  11. Work with Culturally Diverse Clients Cultural awareness and resolving cross-cultural misunderstandings.
  12. Senior First Aid Managing serious injury or sudden illness in the elderly.
  13. Workplace Learning Residential Aged Care Practical primary care application.
  14. Support Emotional and Psychosocial Needs Helping with loss, grief, and emotional wellbeing.

Entry Requirements

Minimum Academic Requirements

  • At least a C6 at Secondary II Levels in any three subjects or equivalent.

English Language Requirement

  • At least a C6 at PSLE or equivalent.

Assessment & Graduation

Assessment Methodology

Assessments include assignments, task assessments, portfolios, and practicals.

Graduation Requirements

Students must complete and pass all 14 modules.

  • Local Students: Must achieve an attendance of 75%.
  • International Students: Must achieve an attendance of 90% in any month.

Upon successful completion, the Certificate III in Aged Care Work will be awarded by CSM Academy International.
